Body Found in Burning Car Near Norman-Polk County Line

A body was found in a burning car Monday morning on Norman County Highway 1. The Norman County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle was stuck in a snow drift on the highway and it was completely burned.

FERTILE, Minn. - A body was found in a burning car Monday morning on Norman County Highway 1.

The Norman County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle was stuck in a snow drift on the highway and it was completely burned. Human remains were found inside the vehicle and will be transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Sheriff Jeremy Thornton would not comment on whether the body was dead or alive prior to the fire. He said there is no foul play suspected.

The report of the burning car came into the Norman County Sheriff's Office at around 7:20 a.m.

Thornton said someone driving on the highway noticed the burning vehicle and called it in.

The Fertile Fire Department, Fertile EMS and Norman County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene.

The incident remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal and the Norman County Sheriff's Office.
