Pop bottle cause of brief scare at NDSU

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Students at North Dakota State University are back in class after a building on campus was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon because of a suspicious package that turned out to be a pop bottle used for ROTC training.

A university spokeswoman says the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse was evacuated for about 15 minutes Thursday afternoon.

Campus Police Chief Bill Vandal says about 150 to 200 people were in the building at the time. A campus-wide alert was also sent out telling students and faculty to avoid the building until further notice.

Vandal says the package ended up being a pop bottle wrapped in masking tape used for ROTC training. Students and employees were allowed back in around 2:15 p.m.
