The city of Moorhead is in the final steps of becoming compliant with FEMA's new floodplain map. The new floodplain map has Moorhead up one foot to a 100 year flood level of 39.3 feet. There are 284 buildings currently touched by the new levels.
The city is now updating its floodplain regulations to be consistent with the revised map. Those revisions were approved at tonights planning commission meeting.
Kristie Leshovsky – Planning and Zoning Administrator: “The revisions are required for us to remain in the National Flood Insurance program, so if for any reason it wasn't approved, there would be the possibility that we could be ineligible for flood insurance.”
The revisions will now go before the city council for a first reading at the next meeting next Monday.
