FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Trial is beginning for a man accused of pulling a gun in a southwestern North Dakota courtroom.

Vicente Chacano (vih-SEN'-tay sha-KAN'-oh) is accused of pulling a gun in the Adams County Courthouse in Hettinger and unsuccessfully trying to fire it after being convicted of child molestation about a year ago. He's charged with 14 counts of attempted murder.

The Chilean native who was working in North Dakota as a farm and ranch hand is accused of trying to shoot the 12 jurors, Sheriff Eugene Molbert and prosecutor Jonathan Byers. Byers helped law officers subdue Chacano and was later honored by the North Dakota House and Senate for his heroism.

The Forum newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/zbsJpe) that Chacano's trial was getting under way Tuesday. It was moved earlier to Fargo.
