Monster Jam invades the FargoDome this weekend

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - They're some of the biggest, fastest, meanest trucks in the country, and they're ready to put on a show at the FargoDome all weekend.

They're some of the biggest, fastest, meanest trucks in the country, and they're ready to put on a show at the FargoDome all weekend.

Chris Ryan has been going to Monster Truck races since he was a kid. From fan to mechanic to, now, the driver of Ground Pounder, he's doing what he loves.

Chris Ryan – Driver of Ground Pounder: “I get pretty nervous before a show starts. Once my motor's running and I get strapped in tight, I'm usually pretty calm in there. I get an idea of what I'm going to do.”

Tomorrow will a special pit event for families. From 11 to 1:30, people can meet drivers and see these beasts up close and personal.

Chris Ryan: “My favorite part is the kids, the kids just love the trucks, no matter what they're happy to see you, whether you have a good night or a bad night, they're always in the stands screaming for us.”

With a 1,500 horsepower engine and 66 inch tires that way more than 550 pounds, at any given time there's more than $150,000 tied up in these trucks.

Kris Boesen – Monster Jam Operations: “We've got the eight trucks that are here, some of the biggest names in Monster Jam such as Grave Digger, Spiderman. And you've got some new comers like Martial Law that are coming on and it's going to be a blast.”

Monster Jam will go through anywhere from 20 to 30 junker cars in a weekend. The most popular car to destroy was the bestselling car in the U.S. in the 1990s - the Ford Taurus.

Kris Boesen: ”We remove the gas tanks and the batteries and things like that, all the glass for safety purposes and just tear them up.”

By Sunday afternoon, the 8 trucks, 5,000 yards of mud and two dozen tearn-up junker cars will be cleared out, the dome floor spotless.

There are two shows, tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30.
