BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota U.S. Sen. John Hoeven and Gov. Jack Dalrymple plan to discuss flood control policy with Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall.
The Alameda and Rafferty dams in southern Saskatchewan hold water back from the Souris River and provide flood protection for north-central North Dakota.
The reservoirs filled up last spring because of rain and melting snow. They had to release a lot of water into the Souris River, and that flooded Minot and other North Dakota towns downstream.
Dalrymple says he and Hoeven want to talk to Wall about whether the dams could be managed differently to provide more flood protection.
They're traveling to Regina, Saskatchewan, later Friday to meet with the premier.
