Tomorrow we'll unveil the final piece in this transformation of how you, our viewers, see the news right here on WDAY. Our weather center and graphics are undergoing a complete makeover.
You may have noticed, unlike the rest of our newscasts, weather hasn't been 16 by 9 inch wide-screen format quite yet. Starting tomorrow, that's all about to change as WDAY will unveil the area's most state of the art storm tracking system.
John Wheeler – StormTRACKER Meteorologist: “The video technology with this system is the best available in the world for weather graphics now, it's better than anything you'll see.”
From wide-screen format, to new graphics, to 3D storm tracking, WDAY will bring you the latest in weather forecasting.
John Wheeler: “We'll be able to show you in such fine detail and such clarity where the weather is happening now, why it's doing what it's doing and where it's going to go next.”
The new storm tracking system uses 5 different radars. When severe weather strikes, our weather team can give you a minute by minute calculation of where a storm might hit.
Rob Kupec – StormTRACKER Meteorologist: “You'll be able to pick out within the storm whether there's hail, whether there's possibility of tornado or wind shear. It'll make our lives a lot easier.”
It doesn't just break it down by city, we can zoom well inside of a community to let you know what's going on right in your neighborhood.
Rob Kupec: “Excited and a little nervous. There's a lot more information here to digest and to get up to speed on pretty quickly.”
For the complete show, watch starting at 5, 6 and 10, tomorrow.
