Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - New this morning: Dozens of firefighters fought flames for hours at a South Fargo home overnight. Smoke was pouring into the sky from this garage. No one was hurt in the blaze, but the homeowner says cleanup won't be easy.

Inside this home, Leroy Dockter had just fired up his wood burning stove.

LEROY DOCKTER - Homeowner: "It actually went pretty fast at that point."

So fast, there's no time to bundle up.

Dockter: "What you got is what we are."

Around 10, crews arrived to extensive smoke pouring from 5216 17th Street South.

Norm Scott – Fargo Fire Marshal: "The fire is contained to the garage but there is a lot of combustible material in the garage so they're having a tough time trying to put it out."

Firefighters say the reason the fire's taking so long to put out is because there is so much stuff in the garage. To Dockter, that's years and years worth of memories.

Dockter: "We've only lived here forty years."

Flames raked through much of the garage, destroying a lot. Not to mention water damage.

Dockter: "Well I don't know how bad the water is inside the house, haven't been there."

But Dockter did manage to get his work truck out in time.

Dockter: "Well yeah, that's the bread and butter."

Dockter good friends are giving them a place to stay while they wait for sunrise to see what the flames have left behind. It's not clear yet how much damage the fire caused.
