New developments in connection with that snake story we told you a week ago. The Clay County Attorney's office has filed animal cruelty charges against Henry Atherton of Dilworth.

Atherton is charged with leaving more than 20 ball python snakes to die in a storage garage near Dilworth. He had a plan to breed and sell the snakes, but he ended up with too many to care for, so he left them in plastic tote boxes. They froze to death.

The owner of a rental storage facility called the Clay County Sheriff's office to report an odor. A judge issued a summons today for his upcoming court appearance.
