By: WDAY Staff Reports,

One of the nation's top law enforcement honors today went to Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney. The National Sheriff's Association has announced Laney will be receiving the National "Sheriff of the Year" award. Dozens of law enforcement and elected officials wrote letters in support of the nomination, many of them citing Laney's leadership and team building qualities. Laney is also credited with supervising flood rescues and organizing multiple local, state and federal agencies from law enforcement here to assist in the flood fight.

Paul Laney – Sheriff of the Year: “Each and every day I get the privilege to serve the county and town I grew up. I never entered law enforcement for personal accolades but rather be part of a team that makes a difference and I have that every day.”

Laney will be honored with the special award in Nashville this coming June. He is in his 6th year as sheriff.
