It's recall election night in politically controversial Valley City, North Dakota. Mayor Bob Werkhoven is taking on former embattled police chief Dean Ross and one city commissioner spot is up for grabs.

This election comes just months after former police Chief Dean Ross had 18 complaints dropped against him in return for his resignation. In the last hour lines have definitely picked up as many are just getting off of work.

The polls will be open for another hour here at city hall before they close at 7. After that all votes will be counted by hand. The turnout is figured to be around 2,000 people in this city of 6,500. That includes nearly 660 absentee ballots. The city auditor is hoping to have results sometime before 10 tonight. Judging by the people we've talked to, the voters seem split at this point.

Lance Peterson - Voted for Werkhoven: “During the flood fight he was here every morning at 5 when we were running around working on the flood so I’m confident in Bob Werkhoven, He's a good mayor.”

Jordan Shape - Voted for Ross: With Dean yes it'll be better, but hopefully after this whoever wins decides to leave this and be the end of it. I think the biggest thing when this is over it'll be better for everyone around here.”
