Fargo is now in line with a new state law outlawing the use of electronic devices by teen drivers. It is illegal for teens 18 and under to use a cell phone, GPS or even iPod while the vehicle is in motion. The fine is $20, but there is a catch. Even the chief of police admits the law will be hard for officers to enforce.

Chief Keith Ternes – Fargo Police Department: “It is only applicable to drivers who were issued their license or permit after January 1st of this year. If a police officer encounters somebody who is under the age of 18 that got their driver’s license or permit prior to January 1st it does not apply.”

Commissioners also voted to revise the weapons policy so any firearm must be fully encased in public, and not be allowed at public gatherings.
