A new report shows that motorists in the Dakotas pay among the least in the nation for auto insurance. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners shows that Iowa is the least-expensive state, followed by North Dakota and South Dakota.
In 2009, the average premium in North Dakota was $650, in South Dakota $651, and in Iowa $631.The national average was $901. Louisiana was the most expensive state at nearly $1,300.
