Clay County's flood control might be helping another community's dire housing needs. Over the last several months there have been home auctions, auctioning off flood buyout homes.

These homes must be moved from the property by the new owner no later than June 30th of this year. Typically they are bid on by individuals looking to score a house at a low rate, but today was a little different.

Representatives from Gwinner bid on the homes to help their home shortage because of rapid growth in the community. Although they didn't purchase any of the homes, city officials say they will be back for February's auction.

Dan McKeever – Mayor of Gwinner: “We have had quite a few phone calls of just residents in town that are talking about doing it, and we actually had a few here today that was in the bid process, didn't quite make the top three, so i am sure they will be back next month too.”

The city bid on three of the homes.
