The man who kept books for the Northwestern Minnesota Synod of the ELCA based in Moorhead is accused of embezzling a quarter of a million dollars.

Robert Larson from Wolverton hasn't been charged, but the reports have been forwarded to the county attorney's office. Larson says he doesn't remember how he spent the money, but much of it may have gone toward a $150-thousand dollar renovation of his home.

He'd been the bookkeeper for the Synod since September 2004 and was fired earlier this month.
