It's been about a decade since hunting and fishing license fees have gone up in Minnesota, but the DNR is about to raise them.
Minnesota's Game and Fish Fund will go into the red by June 2013 unless revenues are raised, mainly through license fees. Last year the DNR proposed raising individual fishing licenses $7 and deer licenses $4 for residents. Its proposal this year is expected to be about the same.
Jeremy Woinarowicz – DNR Conservation Officer: “We have a decrease in the amount of people taking part in outdoor recreation, whether it's hunting fishing or trapping. We also have an increase in our input cost whether it's fuel or maintenance on equipment and stuff. “
Any increases would have to be approved by the legislature.
