Despite optimism over a new round of talks between American Crystal Sugar and the union, there's still no deal to end the nearly 7 month lockout.

Negotiators for the union and American Crystal met with a federal mediator last week. The union followed up with a 16 page proposal. Crystal said today it rejects the proposal. It says the union's offer ignored company's suggestions for ending the lock-out.

John Riskey – Local BCTGM Union Representative: “Yes, this is the strategy the company has been using all along. That they say they're willing to negotiate and now when we do lay something on the table... they're could make some movement and get this settled. They flat right out say they don't want to negotiate.”

The company posted a statement calling the union's proposal a "publicity stunt" by its leadership.
