FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault.
A federal jury in November found 59-year-old Joseph Brown Jr., of St. Michael, guilty of attempted aggravated sexual abuse. Authorities say Brown attempted to rape a young woman on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation in August 2009. The woman was able to escape and notify police.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Brown faced a mandatory life sentence because of previous convictions for sexual assault. There is no parole in the federal system.
Brown was arrested in Sioux Falls, S.D., in July.
