Ice fishing tournament on Gull Lake postponed

BRAINERD, Minn. (AP) — One of Minnesota's largest ice fishing tournaments has been postponed until next month because the ice is not quite thick enough.

The Brainerd Jaycees said Thursday that the "Ice Fishing Extravaganza" on Gull Lake, scheduled for Jan. 21, has been postponed until Feb. 11.

Organizers say even though the weather has turned cold, they don't believe there's enough time to produce enough ice to be safe.

WJON-AM (http://bit.ly/wzA8h7) reports all tickets already bought will be honored on Feb. 11. Refunds will not be issued, but ticket-holders who are unable to attend the 2012 event will receive a voucher for the 2013 contest.

More than $200,000 in prizes will be on the line when the tournament is held.
