BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem (STEN'-juhm) says an old email scam has surfaced again in North Dakota.
He says the scam artists hack into an email account and use it to solicit so-called "emergency" donations from people on the account's contact list. Stenehjem says it's an unusual scam because it has multiple victims — the owner of the email account and the friends who wire money thinking they're helping a friend.
Stenehjem says a Bismarck resident recently reported losing several thousand dollars to the scam.
