(WDAY TV) - The Barnes County Water Resource District is tackling one of the last few steps necessary to complete the Sanborn Lake Outlet. It's asking homeowners for easements, or permission to let outlet water flow through a natural channel on their land.

So far, most are saying it's okay. Water district leaders says when the lake rises again, it won't let outlet water overflow and flood homeowners land.

PAT HURLEY - Barnes County Water Resource District: "If it's flooding, you know down, and the river is flooding, this here will be closed. And then when the river goes down, when this is down here, we'll open this up and let it run again."

Sanborn Lake has lowered more than 5 feet since the outlet was completed a few months ago.
