MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A Minot man involved in a Mandan incident in which authorities blocked streets and evacuated a day care has been sentenced to serve 1 ½ years in prison.
Authorities say 38-year-old Shane Rodriquez in February 2011 called 911, asked police to shoot him and then threatened to shoot officers. He eventually was arrested in Bismarck, but not before Mandan officers had blocked roads around a house where they thought Rodriquez was at and evacuated a day care across the street.
The Bismarck Tribune reports( http://bit.ly/yRsI4d) that Rodriquez last October pleaded guilty to terrorizing, lying to police officers and possessing drugs. Defense attorney Todd Schwarz said during sentencing Monday that Rodriquez's 911 call was a cry for help for mental health problems. Prosecutor Brian Grosinger said Rodriquez needed to be punished.
