Anglers got a late start on the ice fishing season here in Devils Lake, but the season is now in full swing. North Dakota Game and Fish says this year's warm winter ice from thickening on the lake.
Even now there are patches of running water near bridges. But angler Brandon Wade says the fishing is great. He says he reaches the limit of five walleye nearly every time out. Game and Fish says fish love a rising lake.
Randy Hiltner with the N.D. Game and Fish says, “He combination of factors, but it's better habitat, lower solinity, better reproduction of the fish.”
The ice may be dangerous for other reasons too. Game and Fish says ice thickness can range from zero to 15 inches... so it's not wise to drive cars or trucks onto the lake.
