Taylor: Title proves NDSU made right move

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota State Athletic Director Gene Taylor says the football team's national championship removes all doubt that NDSU made the right decision when it moved up to NCAA Division I competition.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota State Athletic Director Gene Taylor says the football team's national championship removes all doubt that NDSU made the right decision when it moved up to NCAA Division I competition.

The Bison on Saturday beat Sam Houston State 17-6 to win the Football Championship Subdivision title, ending a two-decade national title drought. The Bison won eight NCAA Division II crowns, with the last coming in 1990.

NDSU announced in 2002 that it would make the jump to the Division I level. Taylor tells The Forum newspaper (http://bit.ly/xCPWZu) that the national title "closes the book on the transition."

NCAA President Mark Emmert says he was impressed by the volume of Bison fans at the game in Frisco, Texas. And he says NDSU is now "on a national stage."
