Texas is all about football. Today the NDSU coaches and players got a chance to meet some of its youngest fans.
It's a lot of hard work and focus for the Bison football team this week, but they're also taking time out of their busy schedule to inspire some of the youngest members in the Frisco community. As the Bison players walked into Bright Elementary School in Frisco Texas, few expected this kind of greeting.
Billy Turner - Sophomore OT, NDSU: “Usually you have the older fans and the college students, but having the younger kids, it's definitely a different experience just to see the joy in their eyes as we walk in here and just to see how big we are and stuff, it's a different experience.”
Bison Coach Craig Bohl opened the afternoon by encouraging students to strive to always do their best and remember to be students first and athletes second. But then it was back to the gridiron - when asked what their favorite subject in school was, many said simply, football.
Jordan Duzich - 5th Grader, Bright Elementary: “Just don't disobey your teachers and work hard in sports and that will get you far in life.”
Tight End and graduate student Matt Veldman was chosen by Bohl as the team spokesman for this event.
Matt Veldman - Senior TE, NDSU: “I'm a little more nervous talking to those guys than I am talking to the Bison, I've been preparing for the game for three weeks, and this for a couple of hours. It was fun, I was honored to do it.”
