Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - For some of us, the holidays can be stressful. Parents are shopping for those perfect presents for what their children want, but with the economic slump, the gift buying frenzy isn't all that fun. It's not just effecting families, but Santa, too.
While gift lists are getting shorter and shorter this Christmas, the toys on these wish lists are getting pricier. Now, Santa is trying to curb higher budget expectations.
At a time when excited children should worry about whether they have been naughty or nice, Santa is of course making that list and checking it twice, but this holiday is a bit different.
SANTA: “I've been here quite a few years so I know what's going on.”
Yep, you heard right. The jolly old man who watches over our children, is also keeping a watchful eye on the economy.
SANTA: “I don't want to make a promise that I can't fulfill.”
It's not just cash strapped parents tweaking their acts anymore.
ALYSSA SOLSENG - Fargo Mother: “Everybody probably is to a point. You try to get by as best you can.”
Even Santa is having to adjust his.
SANTA: “I try to talk to them about a second choice. That they should talk to their mother and dad about those kind of presents and I would bring them a lesser present.”
Spendy prices on presents have parents feeling the pinch. Gifts they can't afford, but lists they want to fulfill. So Santa's newfound advice is quite the help.
TRACY KESSEL - Fargo Mother: “If Santa is willing and feels comfortable doing it, all the better. It does take some of the burden off of us. The kids obviously love Santa and they value what he says.”
DANIELLE HENDERSON - Fargo Mother: “You don't want your kids to be disappointed either.”
Even if it is dashing the dreams of children who may have unrealistic expectations, but what you can expect, are surprises in your stocking. There is just 1 more shopping day 'til Christmas.
