Fargo doctor to be sentenced for sex assault

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An orthopedic surgeon charged with rape and reckless endangerment for drugging and having sex with a woman in his home has entered an Alford guilty plea, meaning he acknowledges that there's enough evidence to convict him of the crimes.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — An orthopedic surgeon charged with rape and reckless endangerment for drugging and having sex with a woman in his home has entered an Alford guilty plea, meaning he acknowledges that there's enough evidence to convict him of the crimes.

Dr. Jon Norberg of Fargo was accused of having sex with a woman after he gave her propofol, an anesthetic, more than 30 times over 18 months. A sentencing date has not yet been set. The court first has to conduct a pre-sentencing investigation.

An Alford plea is treated like a guilty plea for sentencing purposes, but the suspect does not admit wrongdoing. Norberg could face up to five years in prison.

An administrative law judge last week recommended that Norberg's medical license be suspended indefinitely based on the allegations. Norberg had been on voluntary leave from his job at Sanford Health in Fargo.
