BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Reps. Kathy Hawken and Jim Kasper both say they plan to seek re-election.
The Fargo Forum reports (http://bit.ly/wQDsn4) that Hawken announced her plan Tuesday despite having previously said she would retire after the 2011 session.
The 64-year-old Republican from Fargo says the recent death of Sen. Tom Fischer influenced her decision. She says she isn't ready to end her career in public service. Hawken has served in the state House since 1997.
Plus, she says, Fischer's last words to her were that he really wanted her to run.
Hawken's running mate, Rep. Jim Kasper, was first elected in 2000.
