Bismarck, ND (WDAY TV) -- The happy parents spent the night in a car. No, not what you may be thinking. But instead to get their adopted son, hours away, who just so happens to be North Dakota's first baby of 2012.
It was only a couple of minutes into the New Year, when Heidi Czerwiec and Evan Nelson got one of the most important phone call of their lives. The woman, carrying their son, was heading to the hospital with contractions.
"Well we made coffee," Nelson said.
"Made lots of coffee. We already had everything packed up and ready to go" said Czerwiec.
The couple jumped into their car at their home in Grand Forks and started their four hour ride journey to Bismarck ...Hoping this would be the day, they would meet their adopted son.
"Two weeks ago we had, our birth mother, had some pre-labor contractions and we were thinking maybe it was birth and we got a call then at midnight, kind of a general theme, and we drove out here This four hour trip to Bismarck was entirely different than the first.”
There were no false alarms this time.
“Less than an hour after we got the call, 'He's here. Here is pictures'."
Baby Wyatt was born at 12:52am making him, not just, the first baby of the New Year at MedCenter One in Bismarck, but the first baby of the 2012 in North Dakota.
"It was a really good experience," Czerwiec said. "The more people that are there that love him the better.”
