With winter weather threatening New Year's Eve plans yet again, police are preparing for another busy weekend. Officers will be out in full force and expect to deal with drunk drivers. Most departments will have extra staff on hand. In December 2009, 753 were killed in crashes that involved drunk drivers. Police say to avoid becoming a casualty you should plan ahead, call a taxi, and always have a sober driver.

Sgt. Mike Detloff – Moorhead Police: “If they decide not to, we'll be out there to catch them. If the weather cooperates you know or doesn't cooperate, sometimes that can be an ally for us as well. You know we get a number of drunks that get caught by snow banks or ditches.”

You are encouraged to call 911 if you see a drunk driver.
