With the lack of snow cover in Cass County, city officials are urging people to perform controlled burns with caution. Rural fire danger has been very high and has led to many grass fires that have caused a lot of damage to structures. Although some of Cass County got some light rain, controlled burns can still be dangerous. County ordinances require any person doing a controlled burn must notify the Red River Regional Dispatch Center.

Jim Thoreson – Cass County Chief Deputy: “Really all it will take is an inch or two of snow cover to take care of this, so I said rather than putting out a burning ban let’s just put out a notice urging people caution.”

Thoreson says if the dry weather continues thy might have to issue a controlled burn ban.
