Warm weather and little snow has meant a lot less car accidents in the Fargo-Moorhead area. In checking with local police departments, Moorhead had 313 car accidents in November and December 2010, compared with 184 during the same period this year.

Fargo had 832 reported accidents in that time frame, compared with 596 this year. Police departments say the numbers are a direct result of the weather. The conditions have not only benefited drivers, but the departments as well.

Lt. Joel Vettel – Fargo Police Department: “The time we haven't had to spend on accidents we've been able to deal more with crime prevention, we've been able to deal more with the overall investigation of crimes within our community.”

Police say numbers will increase as there are still a few days left in December, but overall numbers are down more than 30%.
