Local leaders celebrate sign off on diversion project

Local leaders are celebrating now that the Chief of the Army Corp of Engineers has signed off on the Red River Valley diversion project. At the beginning of the meeting Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker and Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland were able to sign the report. Each person shared their thoughts on what the start of this project means to them. Senator John Hoeven and Congressman Rick Berg shared in the excitement. All of the people who have been involved in the project were thanked for all of their hard work.
Mark Voxland – Moorhead Mayor: “With the corps help we got here today, it is going to be really tough now as we let go of this and move into the next phases where we are going to deal with North Dakota legislature and Minnesota's legislature and US congress.”
With congressional approval work could begin as early as 2013 on the outlet at the north end of the diversion.
