(WDAY TV) - Walmart is pulling a batch of powdered infant formula from the shelves for more than 3-thousand stores after a newborn baby in Missouri died.

The 10-day old baby became ill after drinking the formula with a suspected bacterial infection and died after being taken off life support. Walmart is taking the 12.5 ounce cans of Enfamil Newborn powder with the lot number Z-P-1-K-7-G off the shelves, even though the government hasn't issued a recall.

The manufacturer, Mead Johnson Nutrition says the lot tested negative for the bacteria before it was shipped. Walmart says it's pulling the formula as a precaution.

The formula is being sent to the CDC for testing and health officials in Missouri say right now it's not clear of the baby died as a result of the formula or because of an outside source.
