Good news for people in Clay County. The Clay County Board of Commissioners adopted the 2012 budget.
The budget is $901,000 less than this year's, meaning a 3.71% decrease in property taxes for owners. The state used to help real state owners by paying a portion of taxes due to the counties, but legislators eliminated that program to save money.
John Evert - Clay County Board Chairman: “I think we made the cuts that were necessary and I don't think that it's going to hurt most people. I think we've done a good job this year.”
Minnesota state legislators saved $261 million by getting rid of the market value credit program.
