The City of Moorhead's 2012 budget has been finalized. A City Hall meeting held tonight had only one thing on the agenda before finalizing.
With the finalized budget homeowners in Moorhead will see an increase of 6.3% in their property tax as of January 2012. With the average home price in Moorhead at about $150,000, people can expect to pay an extra $23 per year.
The one item being brought back for discussion is from the Economic Development Authority. Officials asked for a budget adjustment to its action communication plan. The nearly $84,000 plan has a goal to increase residential growth and the desire to live in the city by using social media and other on-line advertising. While it did get passed there was one city council member who disagrees.
Mark Altenburg – City Council Member: “I am uncomfortable with this coming forward to us right now. Last week it was communicated that it needed to come forward now because we need to get going in January and February. To me those aren't the prime home buying months. This could settle for a couple of months and then come back with a more refined plan.”
The EDA levy's its own funds, but the city decides how it will spend those funds. The City of Moorhead's 2012 budget is a balanced budget in the amount of $63 million.
