Bison Fans Show Pride

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Bison fans are at it once again. The tailgate was as packed as it was last Saturday despite colder temperatures and an even earlier start time.

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) -- Bison fans are at it once again. The tailgate was as packed as it was last Saturday despite colder temperatures and an even earlier start time.

Bison pride has been running high in Fargo the last couple weeks. Some football fans may be new to this excitement... But not this tailgating group.

These members remember the time back in the 1990's when the city filled with green and gold spirit.

Gordy Langlie (Bison Fan): “It has taken quite a while to get the same atmosphere that we had at Dacotah Field, that was electric in that stadium granted even though it was so much smaller and a lot more confined, and the amount of people that were there were very dedicated fans.”

Gordy Langlie remembers one specific play in that game that brings back electrifying memories...

Gordy: “In 1990 semi-final game here at Dacotah field which determined as this game does today who goes to the national championship, and we got an interception in the fourth quarter that stopped Pittsburg state and that place was electric.”

This group says a lot has changed since the 90s when the Bison were playing right across the street from the Fargodome at the outdoor Dachota Field.

Chet Miller (Bison Fan): “Tailgating really wasn't a thing back in the 70s and 80s we helped build Dacotah field, some people would get together, but it would be out of the trunk of their car.”

Now there are busses, vans, and even high priced rv's filling the lots. People have things like portable heaters and fancy grills to whip up their favorite game day treats.

Chet: “It just keeps growing, and hopefully over the next who knows how many years it keeps growing more and keeps getting bigger and bigger.”

Whether or not people are watching their team outside in the snow or from the warm seats indoors, the true fans will be here year after year.
