BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man has pleaded not guilty to an assault on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in November.
Jeremy Dwarf is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He was arraigned in federal court earlier this week.
Court documents show that Dwarf told investigators he hit Jacob Haywood in the head with a wooden stick, and then kicked Haywood several times while the victim was down.
Authorities say Haywood suffered a fractured skull and surgery was required to stop the bleeding.
A judge has not ruled on a request by Dwarf to delay the trial, which is scheduled for Feb. 7.
