Each school's history is loaded with tradition; 11 national championships combined between the two. NDSU and Georgia Southern have only met once on an October day back in 2006 in Statesboro. It was a landmark win for the Bison program.
Craig Bohl brought his undefeated and 11th ranked Bison into Statesboro just two weeks removed from the program's first ever win over an FBS program.
NDSU fell behind twice in the 2nd quarter, but rallied both times, led by Great West offensive player of the year Steve Walker. Walker first had a rushing a touchdown, then hit Travis White on a 4 yard score to tie the game at 14 at the half.
The second half was domination by the visitors. Walker found his favorite target that season Kole Heckendorf for a 38 yard score, and NDSU's 2nd all-time leading rusher Kyle Steffes went for 128 yards and a score to give the Bison a two touchdown lead.
The Eagles were not running the triple option that season, as Courtney Mitchell brought back an interception 35 yards for the score, for a decisive 34-14 win. It was a victory that opened eyes of a lot of people.
