More flood buyouts in Cass County expected in 2012

2012 will likely bring another round of flood buyouts to homes in Cass County. Officials are coming up with a plan of which properties to include in a request to the federal government for funding. There are about 80 properties around the county being considered for the list, but the majority of them are in one area.

Keith Berndt – Cass County Administrator: “That highway 81 corridor south of Fargo there still are a number of properties that we would like to be removed so that we can’t have those properties on the river that would allow us to do more effective flood fighting and protect other properties farther from the river.”

If the county gets the grant, the Federal government will pay for 85% of the buyout price of each home.
