Four people are dead after a small plane crashed in a field near the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. An airport employee says the plane went down in a field near the airport.
Police and fire crews are at the site. The plane was a twin-engine Cessna 421-C. It left Joe Foss Field at 2:24 p.m. bound for Rapid City. An FAA spokesman says it crashed soon after takeoff. Ben Arndt, a former candidate for lieutenant governor, told a local newspaper that he landed around 2:30 p.m. and saw a large cloud of smoke.
Authorities have identified the four people killed this afternoon in a plane crash near the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. They are pilot Brian Blake and passengers Kevin Anderson, and Dr. Daniel Swets all of Sioux Falls and Joshua Lambrecht of Brandon. Swets was an associate professor at Augustana college.
