The city of Casselton North Dakota is experiencing a rash of robberies. Over the last couple of months at least 15 break-ins have been reported and several businesses were hit over the weekend.
Sunday night the Maple Rive Winery was broken into and a small amount of cash was taken. In addition to the Maple River Winery, several businesses here in the Governor’s Office Park had their doors kicked in and were broken into. It's not just businesses; there have been at least a dozen houses that have been broken into. In all the cases the same things are stolen
Joel Stading – Deputy Sheriff Cass County: “Money, alcohol and cigarettes and that's basically it. Electronic equipment has been left alone. Tools have been left alone. It's just basically those 3 things.”
The thieves are mainly targeting garages according to police and they are mainly looking for unlocked doors or jimmying week locks. The type of thefts and break-ins give police an idea who there looking for.
Joel Stading: “We're looking at a certain group or certain age group and we kind of have a good idea the age group that's doing it. “
Police are urging resident to lock their doors. Some houses that were broken into were hit multiple times because residents continued to leave them unlocked. Police say it's odd no one has spotted anything yet. They are urging homeowners in Casselton to be extra vigilant, and call the Cass County Sheriff if they see anything suspicious.
