You have a chance to see a rare bird for the the Red River Valley. These are snowy owls that were spotted near Warren, Minnesota. Large numbers of the birds are being reported up and down the valley. The snowy owl usually is found in northern Canada. An increased number of the species is likely forcing them south into our area. This map shows some of the sightings and bird experts we talked to say this is likely only about 10% of the number seen. Some of the birds have even been seen close to Fargo.

Keith Corliss – Bird Expert: “I have seen a couple north of the airport, that was in late November and whether there still there or not I don't know. These birds are moving and they're moving in big numbers.”

If you see a snowy owl you are asked to call or email the Audubon Society.
