Minot, ND (WDAY TV) - Major leaks in Minot's water system are proving more problematic than first thought. It is an expensive casualty of the flood.

Along with those breaks and other structural problems, income from providing water has dropped drastically. Thousands of houses are no longer hooked up to the water system.

Damages alone are nearly two million dollars. The loss of revenue adds even more to that total.

CINDY HEMPHILL - Minot Finance Director: "The city elected not to bill anybody in July because we didn't have a way to pull up those individuals in the flood zone. We've been playing catch-up ever since .”

The city is dipping into reserves to cover repairs and lost revenue. FEMA will reimburse Minot.
