RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Overnight low temperatures promised to drop below zero in the Dakotas early in the week, but snow that caused travel problems over the weekend had moved out of the region.

National Weather Service reports show a couple of inches of snow fell in much of the two states on Saturday and Sunday. The North Dakota city of New Town reported 3 ½ inches. The conditions led to several accidents, including many fender-benders in the capital city of Bismarck.

There also were several wrecks in western South Dakota on Sunday, and drivers in the Sturgis area reported whiteout conditions. Interstate 90 was closed between Sturgis and Piedmont for about four hours.
