The North Dakota State Highway Patrol is looking for some new recruits to head west. Today was the last day people could apply for state patrol openings in a special fast track training program. Four troopers are being hired for the oil patch. A surge in the number of trucks and traffic out west is forcing the State Patrol to increase a trooper presence there.

Lt. Bryan Niewind – ND State Patrol: β€œIt is a 24 week course, they are going to pare it down to 19 weeks and get those trooopers as fast as we can.”

The legislature approved the proposal for the 4 troopers as part of a disaster relief bill. The state patrol will also be filling four vacancies left open by retirement.
