The NCAA Volleyball Committee must love repeats. That has to be the biggest reason why NDSU is back in Minneapolis tonight for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This is the 3rd time in 4 years NDSU will meet the Gophers. The previous two meetings have been quick both 3-0 Minnesota sweeps.
Much of the talk this week has been about the tourney committee pitted the Bison against the Gophers for the 3rd time in NDSU's 3 appearances. So I asked Kari Thompson if the team feels they're being treated unfairly.
Kari Thompson – NDSU Head Coach: “Definitely not, our team is excited that's how the NCAA does it, and you look at what our RPI and where they are it makes sense. We're really confident what we're doing. Every time we've played them, we've improved, and that's both in the NCAA tourney and spring tourneys.”
Trevor: “If you take it to 4 or 5 sets, and still lose can you walk away or are we past that point now?”
Kari Thompson: “It's still a loss in our book. That's something we're not going to be happy with, we want a win in the NCAA tournament, a loss will hurt either way.”
Something that gives NDSU some hope; NDSU lost to both Iowa State and Northern Iowa in 5 sets, each are seeded higher than the Gophers. Minnesota lost just 3 times at home all year.
