MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A Mandan man says he panicked and hid a gun allegedly used by another man in a fatal shooting outside his home and then lied to police about what happened.

Nicholas Reed on Thursday pleaded guilty to charges of hindering law officers and giving them false information as they investigated the October 2010 death of 22-year-old Xavier Thompson.

Authorities say Thompson and 26-year-old Steven Voegele (VOH'-guhl) shot one another in a dispute over an iPod music player during a party at Reed's home. Thompson died. Voegele survived and is to stand trial next week on felony charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and terrorizing.

Reed faces up to two years in jail on the misdemeanor charges against him. A sentencing date was not immediately set.
