M-State students in Detroit Lakes are seeing what it's like to run their own business. To celebrate Entrepreneurship Day, some set up shop at the Student Life Center to sell goods and services.
Misse Paskey – M-State Student: "A lot of people think they are just adorable, and try them on."
For M-State student Misse Paskey, creating these cute, crocheted hats is her hobby.
Misse Paskey: "I have five kids at home so this is my downtime. It's what I do for me."
She signed up to show off the business she started. She was surrounded by other students, faculty and staff here for M-State's first ever Entrepreneurship Day.
Tony Parker – Teaches Entrepreneurship: "You got to think about how am I going to price things, what am I going to say to customers when they come through, how I am going to decorate my booth."
Paskey's an accounting student, so she won't pursue this full time, but she's happy for the boost of business.
Misse Paskey: "It's extra money for my family for Christmas too."
Right behind Misse's booth, this seller swears by his mom Myrt's Miracle Window Cleaning Mix.
Dale Westley – M-State Enrollment Manager: "A cleaning solution my mother found in a cookbook.
Dale Westley is M-State's enrollment manager. He says he's here selling bee-hive bird houses just to help students out.
Dale Westley: "It’s thinking outside the box, coming up with ideas to start your own business…Not that I would start my own business in bird-house selling.
With these sellers sharing innovative ideas, M-State staff hopes students get the courage to continue their pursuit for a personal business.
Students set up shop for four hours, and got to keep all the money.
