NAPOLEON, N.D. (AP) — Longtime Napoleon High School wrestling coach Barry McCleary has retired.
The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/sMHGoO ) that McCleary has handed the reins to his son Kelly McCleary and former pupil Justin Weigel after 26 years as head coach of the Imperials. He says he's going to miss coaching but that he's leaving the program in good hands.
McCleary coached nine state team champions as well as six state dual champions during his tenure. He coached 23 wrestlers who won individual state championships, including three of his sons. His teams won 437 duals. He was named Class B coach of the year in 1989 and 2005.
McCleary says "it was a great ride."
